teaching & learning
uӠɑ is a worldwide organisation that promotes ongoing learning in retirement
Gisborne U3A has grown markedly with the increase in retired citizens wishing to continue learning for life. Currently there are over 400 members, providing a powerhouse of knowledge, skill and experience gained over all those lifetimes.
Group work is central to Gisborne U3A. At present there are over 30 groups, meeting weekly to monthly. All endeavour to nurture minds and bodies, and all provide social engagement for members. All the work and learnings are volunteer-led and member-led, with members encouraged to start groups and to share the tasks and responsibilities.
Financial membership is required to participate in Gisborne U3A Inc group activities.
OUR GROUPS
All groups are self-generating and self-managing. Groups arise in response to members’ interests and wishes.
They can be of short duration and many groups have continued for years, with membership and facilitators changing and renewing. Some gather in members’ homes and so numbers are limited. Others meet in hired premises and are always open to new members.
Information and lists of all of the current group activities are available to view at our main Monthly Morning Meetings or for members, via this website.
At the Monthly Meeting there is a ‘Give & Take’ book table where members can share books they have enjoyed.
Pictures are examples of some of our groups. Send message via box at bottom of page for more details
